Cassina – Italian Design Between Innovation and Icons

Cassina was founded in 1927 by Cesare and Umberto Cassina and quickly evolved from a classic carpentry workshop into an innovative furniture manufacturer that has shaped the industry for decades and continues to do so today. The company played a central role in the development of Italian post-war design and still stands for the combination of traditional craftsmanship and industrial innovation.

A decisive moment in the company's history was the collaboration with international architects and designers starting in the 1950s. This context led to designs that have had a lasting impact on modern living.

With the introduction of the "I Maestri" collection, Cassina also set an important milestone. Iconic designs by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand were reissued and further developed in close consultation with the original designs. This engagement with design history remains a central part of the brand today.

Philosophy, Innovation and Design Understanding

Cassina understands design as a continuous process between past and future. Historical designs are not only preserved but actively translated into the present. At the same time, new collections are created in collaboration with international designers, continuing this aspiration.

At the heart of it is a clear design philosophy. Furniture is understood as part of an overall architectural idea and follows a precise engagement with form, function, and material.

Industrial manufacturing also plays a vital role. Cassina is one of the first companies to combine artisanal quality with industrial processes.

The brand's manifesto underlines this claim. Cassina sees itself as a cultural institution that not only produces design but also interprets and develops it.

The furniture is characterized by its precise craftsmanship, clear design language, and architectural impact. They integrate into various room concepts and develop their quality in interaction with material, light, and structure.

In the showrooms of RUBY Design Living and dopo domani, we showcase selected Cassina pieces that reflect the brand's breadth.

With the Capitol Complex chair, the proximity to architecture becomes particularly clear. The design is based on Le Corbusier's work for Chandigarh and translates this attitude into a precise, minimalist form.

The Sengu Bold sofa reinterprets classic Japanese architecture, combining clear lines with soft, comfort-oriented upholstery. It appears structured yet inviting.

The 780 side table by Gianfranco Frattini stands for the combination of geometric clarity and material-focused design. Its compact form makes it a versatile element in any space, as do the Bramante 2 highboards.

The selection is complemented by the Sengu coffee table, as well as the Sahara Grid rug, which adds additional depth to the room through its pattern and materiality.

Together, these pieces demonstrate how consistently Cassina connects different design approaches and translates them into a contemporary context.
