DEDON – Outdoor Furniture: Innovative and Redefined

DEDON was founded in 1990 by Bobby Dekeyser, with the idea of developing outdoor furniture that would meet the same standards of design, comfort, and quality as indoor furniture.

One of the key innovations that has characterized DEDON from the beginning is the development of its own fiber, specially designed for outdoor use. This weather-resistant, UV-stable synthetic fiber still forms the basis of the collections today and made it possible for the first time to use hand-woven furniture permanently outdoors.

Zero-Waste Production in Cebu

At the same time, the company made a crucial strategic decision early on: as early as 1994, Dedon began having its furniture manufactured on the Philippine island of Cebu – a place known worldwide for its exceptional weaving tradition.

Since 2000, the entire production chain of the hand-woven collections has taken place under the umbrella of DEDON in its zero-waste production facility in Cebu — from fiber production to weaving and delivery.

This remains the foundation of the brand to this day and made DEDON a pioneer in the field of high-quality outdoor furniture.

Meanwhile, the portfolio has been expanded to include materials such as teak, ceramic, sling, and many more, creating an incredible variety of design possibilities for outdoor spaces.

Thus, what was initially a visionary approach developed into a leading international brand. DEDON today stands for the combination of technological innovation, artisanal craftsmanship, and a clear design Anspruch.

Design and Outdoor as Living Space

In collaboration with international designers such as Jean-Marie Massaud and Philippe Starck, furniture is created that conceives the outdoor area as a full-fledged living space. Transitions between indoor and outdoor are deliberately blurred, with comfort and design taking center stage.

At both RUBY Design Living and Herrendorf, we seasonally showcase selected pieces from DEDON. At RUBY Design Living, you can discover, among other things, the extraordinary Nestrest Lounge as well as the Dedon Mbrace Wing Chair designed by Sebastian Herkner.
