The pendant lamp Model 2065 was designed by Gino Sarfatti in 1950. At that time, glass was the preferred material for making lamps. However, in 1949 Sarfatti received the first samples of a polymer plastic and noticed that it was not only much more robust but also much lighter than glass. This is how the new model was created.

The diffuser of the lamp consists of two connected, opal "plates" held by a black cable. In 2016, the lamp was re-launched by the manufacturer Astep, with a new version in which the upper plate has a black soft-touch coating.

Design Gino Sarfatti

Gino Sarfatti (1912–1985) war ein italienischer Designer und Lichtgestalter, der als einer der Pioniere des modernen Lampendesigns gilt. Er gründete 1939 die Firma Arteluce, die für ihre innovativen und funktionalen Beleuchtungslösungen bekannt wurde. Sarfatti kombinierte technisches Wissen mit ästhetischem Gespür und schuf zahlreiche ikonische Leuchten, die oft aus Materialien wie Metall, Glas und Kunststoff gefertigt waren.

Gino Sarfatti entwarf im Laufe seiner Karriere zahlreiche ikonische Leuchten, die bis heute geschätzt werden. Sarfattis Leuchten sind oft in Museen für modernes Design sowie in vielen privaten Sammlungen zu finden. Seine Arbeiten haben nicht nur die Beleuchtungstechnik beeinflusst, sondern auch das allgemeine Verständnis von Raum und Licht in der Architektur und Innenarchitektur erweitert.
